Interventional Radiology
What Is The Difference Between a Surgeon And an Interventional Radiologist?
- A traditional surgeon makes an incision (a cut) under general anesthesia to open up an area of the body, looks inside to determine what is wrong, fixes it and then closes the incision with stitches, staples, tape or other means.
- An interventional radiologist is able to see inside the body of a patient without making a surgical incision but rather by using the sophisticated, state-of-the-art X-ray and other imaging devices to guide tiny catheters and other small tools through the body to treat a disease without surgery.
- These tools enter the body through a tiny nick in the skin about the size of the tip of a pencil.
- After fixing the problem, the interventional radiologist then removes the catheter and the instruments.
- Stitches generally are not needed, and procedures rarely require general anesthesia.
Services that We Offer
Tumor ablation treatments for cancer (such as radiofrequency ablation):
Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive method that uses heat energy to destroy cancer cells. Under CT or ultrasound imaging to locate the tumor
Treatment of varicose veins :
It is a procedure performed in outpatient clinics using an ultrasound device
Treatment of liver tumors with chemical injections or (chemoembolization) :
Under the catheterization device, the interventional radiology department inserts a catheter into the artery feeding the tumor, then the tumor is completely injected with a chemical substance until it disappears completely.
Treatment of uterine fibroids :
Under the catheterization device and interventional radiology, the catheter is inserted into the arteries feeding the fibroid and closed with various materials, the most important of which are fine granules under local anesthesia until the fibroid disappears completely.
Varicocele treatment :
Treatment is done by inserting a catheter and interventional radiology device into the vein feeding the varicocele, whether on the right or left side. The feeding vein is injected and closed using various materials, the most important of which are the glue and spiral coils.
Gastric feeding tubes A gastric feeding tube (feeding tube) is inserted into the stomach if the patient is unable to eat by mouth. Needle biopsy: A small needle is inserted into the abnormal area in almost any part of the body, guided by imaging techniques, to obtain a tissue biopsy.
Needle biopsy:
A small needle is inserted into the abnormal area in almost any part of the body, guided by imaging techniques, to obtain a tissue biopsy.
This type of biopsy can provide a diagnosis without surgery.
An example of this procedure is called a needle biopsy of the breast.
- A catheter in a large vein to give chemotherapy drugs (portcath), nutritional support, and dialysis (mahawk or permacath)
- Treatment of chronic arterial stenosis
- By expanding the artery with a balloon or placing a metal stent to maintain the diameter of the artery
- or maintaining the size of the targeted artery, whether for a stent for the arteries of the foot or a stent for the arteries of the intestine or a stent in the arteries of the kidney
