Emergency

  • We know no one wants to be an emergency patient, and that patients and their families may be upset or frightened by their illness or injury.
  • You are in good hands.
  • Our staff is highly trained to provide excellent care.
  • If you have any questions after discharge, or if there is anything we can do for you, call the Emergency Department 202- 24544557.
  • Triage Upon arrival, a registered nurse will see you.

This is the beginning of your medical treatment:

  • The triage nurse will ask the reason for your visit, inquire about your medical history and perform a brief exam.
  • Triage helps determine the severity of your condition and helps ensure the most urgent patients are seen by a physician first.
  • This is why someone who arrives after you may be taken into the treatment area before you.
  • Registration You will be asked for information necessary to begin your chart.
  • If an exam room is available, you will be taken directly into the treatment area.
  • Otherwise, you will be asked to remain in the reception area.

Investigations and Treatment :

  • In the treatment area, the testing process begins.
  • A certified emergency room physician will see you.
  • Your nurse may start an IV, obtain a blood or urine sample or send you for an X-ray if necessary.
  • Physicians see patients based on the severity of their illness.
  • Our goal is to evaluate all patients in a timely manner. Evaluations may take up to three hours, or longer if specialized tests are needed.

Ambulance service:

  • Our highly skilled and well-equipped ambulance service provides emergency medical care at the site of the accident.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) units (Emergency Cars) are staffed by a paramedic, an Emergency Medical team (EMT) & a car driver.
  • The cars have the equipment for ALS including an ECG device, a defibrillator, and means of intubations facilities, pulse-oxymeter, IV fluid therapy, gastric lavage, perfusor, stretcher & a broad range of drugs.

Emergency unit:

  • Emergency physicians are trained in the most advanced fields of intervention; including ventilation, anesthesia, etc.

The Unit Is Divided Into Four Sub-units:

  1. Adult emergency treatment.
  2. Child emergency treatment.
  3. Adult emergency observation.
  4. Child emergency observation.

Ganzouri’s Emergency Room Includes:

  1. Ambulatory Receiving Center.
  2. Regional Trauma Unit.
  3. Imaging and X-ray Center.
  4. Patient Observation Unit.
  5. Surgical Services.
  6. Internal Medicine.
  7. Treatment Rooms.

  9. Orthopedic Services.

Emergency Specialization services within the utmost professionalism:

  • This unit is a part of the emergency department introducing its services 24hrs a day under supervision of highly efficient, specialized and qualified medical staff.
  • This unit deals with very critical patients as time is very critical to save their lives and decrease complication.
  • Early and correct management of any toxicological case need efficient, specialized and highly qualified medical staff in order to avoid mortality or morbidity that may be caused by delayed or improper management.

Cases Treated In PCU (Poison Control Unit):

  • Drug overdose either suicidal, accidental or addiction overdose.
  • Hypersensitivity to any drug.
  • Exposure to corrosives (alkali or acid ) either through ingestion or inhalation.
  • Exposure to any toxic gases especially carbon monoxide.
  • Exposure to products of petroleum distillate products (Kerosene, benzene, tinner…).
  • Scorpion sting and snake bite.
  • All types of food poisoning ( botulism ) and it includes food contaminated with insecticide.
  • Chronic lead poisoning.
  • Ingestion of toxic seafood’s Services offered in PCU.

  • Emergency Department is always open to serve you and your family, Along with delivering immediate advanced emergency treatment for severe injury and illness, GSH has been recognized for high levels of quality in treating heart attack, heart failure, stroke, and other life-threatening conditions.
  • GSH has been cited for following treatment guidelines proven to be most effective in saving lives and improving health.
  • In the Emergency Department, skilled, experienced board-certified emergency physicians, registered nurses and technicians care for seriously ill or injured adults.
  • The Emergency Department is equipped with advanced technology.
  • GSH advanced medical and surgical capabilities in heart, stroke, orthopedics and other specialties help ensure that timely care is available on-site for all kinds of patient’s needs.
  • Information For Emergency Patients friends are asked to remain in the reception area unless their presence is absolutely necessary for the care of the patient. In this way, the patients’ needs can be met and privacy maintained.
  • Minor patients may be accompanied by their parents.
  • Re-Evaluation Once all test results are received by the Emergency Department physician.
  • Based on these results and your condition, you may be discharged home or admitted to the hospital.
  • Your private physician will be contacted to help in this decision.
  • If you do not have a physician, one will be assigned to you from our on-call list of specialists.
  • Extended waiting time may occur due to delays in test results, availability of hospital beds or consultation with specialists.
  • When you are discharged, you will be given written after-care instructions to follow at home.
  • It is important for you to follow-up with your private physician or the referral physician.

The emergency department at Ganzouri Specialized Hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It is staffed with experienced Handling of directed emergencies which should be integrated into the organization of each medical or combined specialty unit, while indirect emergencies are handled by the Emergency unit.

This means that each unit or combined unit head must provide for:

  • Receiving emergencies: A permanently available senior doctor who can be contacted both during the day and when on call: Also spare beds ready for emergency patients.
  • Surgical units: A standby operating theatre organization with nursing staff and anesthetist for emergency operations.

Appropriate Conditions To Use An Emergency Department:

  • Chest pains and heart attacks
  • Major trauma
  • Breathing problems such as shortness of breath and chronic diseases such as asthma and emphysema
  • Unconsciousness / reduced consciousness
  • Abdominal pain or injuries
  • Burns: All electrical burns, Burns covering more than 10% of the body  and all burns to the face, hands, feet and genital area
  • Pregnant women
  • Babies and all children
  • People with mental health problems (e.g. severe depression)
  • Giving medical information to the patient about first aid management to a toxic case until transfer to the hospital through hotlines. and laboratory Services forToxicological screening (many toxicological substances). Drug monitoring (epanutin, tegretol, theophlline, depakine…).
  • Drug abuse screening ( benzodiazepine, opiates, barbiturates, Cannabis, amphetamine, cocaine, meprobamates…).

The regional ambulance service of the Ganzouri Specialized Hospital is ready to respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day.
